Let’s face it, 2021 was a challenging year in real estate. Inventory was low across the nation, and many wrote multiple offers for their clients before they finally got one accepted. At times we felt like therapists and would end our days exhausted and wondering why we got into this business in the first place. This year is likely to be as competitive as the last, so you need to rest up and prepare. With that said, I urge you to make self-care a priority. Here are some tips for incorporating self-care into your daily routine.
Put it on your schedule.
Schedule a block each day to take time out for yourself. It doesn’t need to be long, maybe a 5-minute meditation or 30-minute walk, just do something to clear your head and breathe. Add it to your calendar like any other appointment and stick to it.
Write in a journal
Journaling is a great way to clear your mind. Jot down your goals, worries, or random thoughts throughout the day. This is a fantastic way to keep your mental health in check.
Give yourself permission to say no.
If you’re a people pleaser, saying no can be tricky. But sometimes, you need to put yourself first. If you are always doing for others and not taking care of yourself, you will continue to feel depleted. Ask yourself if saying “yes” will bring you joy. If it does, fine do it. If not, say no and let it go.
Stay hydrated and eat balanced meals.
Agents are always on the run. Whether showing property, staging a home, hosting an open house, or prospecting, there is always something to do and somewhere to be. We can forget to drink enough water or eat a healthy meal in the process. When you feed your body well, you feel better. Each day, leave your home with a water bottle in hand and pack some healthy snacks to avoid the urge of hitting a drive-thru.
Work it into your schedule.
Sometimes as much as we try to incorporate self-care into our day, it’s still hard to find the time. If you are an agent always on the go, consider listening to an inspirational podcast or an audiobook in your car or while getting ready in the morning. Anything you can do to create a sense of calm will make your day better.
