This holiday season consider partnering with a local wine shop. Pre-select a variety of wines and invite your clients to stop-by for a free tasting and give them each a bottle of their favorite to take home.

Step 1: Find Your Partner
Your first step in coordinating this event is to find a partner. Contact your favorite wine shop about hosting your reverse pop-by event. Ask them to provide the tasting at no-charge and to offer your clients a discount on their additional purchases. The merchant will likely agree to your request because it’s a “win-win” for their business. You’ll be helping drive traffic to their store and they’ll benefit by additional sales.
Step 2: Pick a Date
This is a great event to host before Thanksgiving since many people are already stocking up before their family gatherings. Consider hosting your tasting on the Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Step 3: Select Your Wines
Since you will be giving each client a complimentary bottle of wine, determine your budget in advance with the wine shop. Ask the sommelier to help you choose individual wines. Because they’ve tasted many and know producers and vintages, they’ll be able to provide the best recommendations to stay within your budget.
Step 4: Invite Your Clients
Now it’s time to get the word out! Let your clients know that you’ve arranged for a complimentary tasting and a free bottle of wine at your favorite wine shop. Email or mail an invitation with specific details three weeks in advance with an RSVP deadline one week prior. Having an approximate headcount will help you better manage your event with the merchant. Also make sure you send out a text or email reminder to clients a couple of days in advance.
Step 5: Add a Personal Touch
Create a personalized tag and attach it to each bottle of wine you giveaway. Keep your message simple and sincere.
