Break The Awkward Silence. Get The Conversation Started.

Sometimes when we haven’t talked to someone in a while, it can feel awkward to reconnect. We may overthink the situation and jump to the conclusion that the other person doesn’t want to hear from us. That’s when you need to relax, take a deep breath, and remind yourself that you probably won’t be judged as harshly as you think. 

Sending a text message can be the easiest way to break the awkward silence. Not sure what to say? No problem, we’ve got you covered. Here are five reasons you can reach out. 

#1: Acknowledge You Haven’t Stayed In Touch

Maybe they called or texted you and you just now realized you never replied. Acknowledge your silence, apologize, and ask them how they’ve been.

#2: Mention Their Social Media

Let them know you’re paying attention to their feed. Send a text about something they recently posted. For example, “I just saw that you took a trip to Costa Rica. Looks like you had an amazing time! I’d love to hear all about it because we’re hoping to go there too. Let’s get together!”

#3: Make An Emotional Connection

Did you see something that reminded you of them? Snap a photo and send a text. This gesture is sure to make them smile and bring back happy memories. For example, “I saw this today and had to send it to you!”

#4: Ask Them A Question

Everyone wants to feel needed and when you ask for advice or for a recommendation, people feel valued. Is there something you could ask to spur conversation? For example, maybe you are considering redecorating your home and your client has exquisite taste. Ask them who their decorator is.

#5: I Was Just In Your Neighborhood

As an agent, we’re on the go every day and chances are you’re probably driving near some of your client’s homes. Next time you’re in their neck of the woods send them a text letting them know you were thinking of them.
