100th Post Celebration: The Agent’s Mental Health Day in Maine

Well folks, as promised, I celebrated this – my 100th post here at the archive – with an impromptu vacation with my family in Maine. And now, to make up for my earlier laziness/”f*** this s**, I’m out” moment, I present you with a short photo log of my day out.

The day started early with us arriving at Wells Beach around 9 AM. My parents prefer low tide because of all the neat things that wash up, but I enjoy the serenity and emptiness of the beach at high tide when there’s only the sound of the waves on the shore.

It was nice to be out of the house and away from work and my usual time wasters. My parents seemed content as well.

Even the local Comorants were having a good time.

That’s not to say that there weren’t tragedies on the shore. This poor little guy just didn’t make it through the harshness of the sea.

Unfortunately for us, the tide came in faster than reported and we quickly had to make a run for cover to a nearby (read: inconveniently out of reach) access ramp.

But, even this wasn’t so bad. Now we had an excuse to take in the neighborhood…

… relax by the tidal flats…

… and get the biggest surprise of the day; a chance encounter with an albino Blackbird.

Again, not all was well by the shore. This unfortunate soul is gonna have a big repair bill for that bike.

We found a spot where we stopped to rest a while and take in the environment. The sight and sound of the waves crashing against the flood wall was oddly soothing.

After browsing the gift shops and grabbing lunch, we made our way to York. Because no trip to Maine in my family is complete until we go to The Goldenrod.

This place has been pumping out great ice cream and salt water taffy since 1896 and it’s been a childhood tradition of mine to stop by every time I go to Maine. The best part is being able to watch the taffy making process from the store front window.

And to cap off the day, just as the storm clouds were rolling in, we stopped by the Nubble Lighthouse to catch it shining out in the mist.

And that’s my vacation in a nutshell. If you liked these photos, I’ll be attempting to make full size copies of these and others available for purchase on my Foap store later on. I’ll be getting back to the regular string of entertainment analyses,  three-second brainwaves, and sharp-tongued criticisms next week. Thanks for supporting me for 100 posts, everyone!
